Hairline restoration for frontal thinning

Specialist restoration for receding and thinning frontal hairlines

What is Receding Hairline Transplant?

A hair transplant for a receding hairline is a surgical procedure to restore hair loss at the front of the scalp, where the hairline has moved backwards or become thinner. The treatment involves relocating healthy hair follicles from a donor area, typically the back or sides of the head to the frontal hairline to improve density and redefine its shape.

At Aventus Clinic, this is commonly performed using Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), where individual follicular units are carefully removed and implanted into the areas of recession. Each graft is positioned to follow the natural direction and angle of hair growth to ensure the restored hairline blends with existing hair.

Suitability depends on donor hair availability, stability of hair loss and overall health. At Aventus Clinic, the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic by GMC-registered doctors in a CQC-registered clinical setting.

An FUE hairline transplant is a surgical hair restoration procedure used to address a thinning or receding frontal hairline. The technique involves extracting individual hair follicles from a donor area, usually at the back or sides of the scalp, and implanting them into the areas where the hairline has receded. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) allows precise placement of grafts to rebuild a hairline that complements your facial features and looks natural.

During the procedure, individual follicular units are extracted one by one using micro-surgical instruments. These follicles are then meticulously placed along the hairline at specific angles, depths and directions to replicate natural hair growth.

Particular attention is paid to density gradients and irregularity, avoiding a straight or artificial appearance. The goal is a soft, age-appropriate hairline that blends seamlessly with your existing hair.

FUE is considered the gold standard for hairline work because it allows for maximum control and minimal scarring. There is no linear scar, making it suitable even for those who prefer shorter hairstyles.

It also enables precise placement of single-hair grafts at the very front of the hairline, which is essential for achieving a natural result. This level of detail is not possible with older techniques.

Recovery is generally straightforward. Mild redness and small scabs in the hairline area are common and usually settle within 7 to 14 days. The transplanted hairs often shed within the first few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. New growth typically begins around three to four months after treatment, with visible improvement continuing over 9 to 12 months.

You may be suitable if you:

  • Have a receding or thinning frontal hairline
  • Have stable pattern hair loss
  • Have sufficient healthy donor hair at the back or sides of the scalp
  • Are in good general health
  • Have realistic expectations about results

A consultation is necessary to assess donor density, hair characteristics and long-term hair loss patterns.

FAQ'S

Hairline Transplant FAQss

A hairline transplant focuses specifically on restoring or reshaping the frontal hairline rather than adding density across the entire scalp. It requires more detailed planning and precise placement to ensure the hairline looks natural, balanced and age-appropriate. Full hair transplants may address larger areas of thinning, whereas hairline procedures are more refined and design-led.
Yes, when performed correctly, an FUE hairline transplant can look completely natural. Individual follicles are placed at specific angles, depths and directions to mimic natural hair growth. Single-hair grafts are used at the front to create a soft, irregular hairline that blends seamlessly with existing hair.
The transplanted hairs are taken from areas of the scalp that are genetically resistant to hair loss. Once they have grown, these hairs are considered permanent. However, surrounding native hair may continue to thin over time, which is why careful planning is important to maintain a natural look long term.
Transplanted hairs usually shed within the first few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. New hair growth typically begins around 3–4 months, with noticeable improvement by 6 months. Final hairline shape and density continue to develop over 12–18 months.
Suitability depends on factors such as donor hair quality, degree of hair loss, hair characteristics and long-term expectations. A detailed consultation is essential to assess whether a hairline transplant is appropriate and to design a result that will age naturally over time.
