Private Cherry Angioma Removal

Specialist-led cherry angioma removal clinic

Specialist Removal of Cherry Angioma & Blood Blister

Cherry angiomas are common benign vascular skin growths that appear as small red or purple spots. They develop from clusters of tiny blood vessels and often increase with age. Although harmless, you may choose removal if a lesion bleeds, becomes irritated or causes cosmetic concern.

At Aventus Clinic, we assess each lesion carefully to confirm the diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment. Depending on the size and location, we may use laser therapy to target the blood vessels, electrosurgery to cauterise and remove the lesion, or cryotherapy for smaller growths. All procedures are performed by our GMC-registered doctors in a regulated clinical setting, with clear aftercare advice to support safe healing and minimise scarring.

What to Expect From Your Cherry Angioma Removal Appointment

Here is what happens during your cherry angioma treatment, from clinical assessment to aftercare and review.

Free Online Assessment

Upload clear photographs of the lesion using our secure form and provide brief details about any changes or symptoms. We review your submission to assess whether it appears consistent with a cherry angioma and advise if an in-clinic appointment is appropriate.

Consultation and Assessment

During your visit, we examine the lesion to confirm diagnosis and assess its size and location. We explain the most suitable removal option and outline expected healing and aftercare before proceeding.

Treatment and Aftercare

Removal may involve laser therapy, electrosurgery or cryotherapy depending on the lesion. Procedures are carried out in our regulated clinic, with clear aftercare guidance provided to support safe healing.

Cherry angioma removal works by safely eliminating the cluster of tiny blood vessels that create the red lesion. Depending on the size and appearance of the angioma, we may use targeted laser energy or electrocautery to heat and seal the vessels, carefully remove the raised area using a shave technique, or apply controlled cryotherapy to freeze and break down the vascular tissue.

Surface healing typically takes 7–14 days, depending on the size of the lesion and treatment method. Larger lesions may take slightly longer. The treated area may form a small scab that falls away naturally.

There is always a small risk of scarring with any procedure that breaks the skin. However, when performed carefully, most cherry angioma removals heal with minimal or no noticeable scarring. Larger, thicker or deeper lesions carry a slightly higher risk of a small residual mark.

Once properly removed, the same angioma typically does not return. However, new cherry angiomas may develop elsewhere over time, particularly as part of the natural ageing process.

Most removal methods can be performed across a range of skin types. However, certain laser treatments may require adjustment in darker skin tones to reduce the risk of temporary pigmentation changes. A consultation ensures the safest technique is chosen.

Yes. Multiple lesions can usually be treated in a single session, depending on the number present and the method used. Your clinician will advise if staged treatment would be more appropriate.

Treatments

Cherry Angioma Removal Treatments We Offer

We begin with a clinical assessment to confirm the diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment based on the size, thickness and location of the lesion, as well as your skin type.

Laser Treatment

Where suitable, we use targeted laser energy to heat and seal the blood vessels within the angioma. The lesion may darken before gradually fading as the skin heals. This approach allows precise treatment with minimal impact on surrounding tissue.

Electrocautery

Electrocautery uses controlled heat to destroy the vascular tissue while sealing the vessels at the same time. We often recommend this method for small to medium raised lesions. A light crust may form and typically resolves within one to two weeks.

Shave Removal

For larger or more prominent angiomas, we may advise shave removal under local anaesthetic. The raised portion is carefully removed so it sits flush with the surrounding skin, with healing usually taking around one to two weeks.

Targeted Treatment For All Types of Cherry Angiomas

No matter the size, number or location of your cherry angiomas, we are here to help.

As a doctor-led clinic, we carefully assess each lesion to confirm the diagnosis and advise on the most appropriate treatment. Cherry angiomas can vary from small, flat red spots to larger raised lesions that bleed or become irritated, and treatment should always reflect those differences.

The approach we recommend will be tailored to your individual presentation  whether you have a single angioma you would like removed or multiple lesions that have developed over time. Our experienced clinical team will suggest the safest and most effective removal method based on your skin type, the characteristics of the lesion and your cosmetic goals.

FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser treatment works by directing precise light energy into the angioma. The energy is absorbed by the blood within the lesion, generating heat that seals the vessels.

Following treatment, the angioma may darken slightly before gradually fading or forming a small crust that resolves during healing. Because the laser targets haemoglobin within the vessels, the surrounding skin is largely unaffected.

For larger or more raised cherry angiomas, we may recommend shave removal. After administering local anaesthetic to ensure comfort, we gently remove the raised portion so that it sits flush with the surrounding skin.

Bleeding is controlled during the procedure, and stitches are not usually required. Healing generally takes around one to two weeks.

Treating a single cherry angioma usually takes only a few minutes. If multiple lesions are being removed, the overall appointment length will depend on how many require treatment and the technique used.

Most patients describe only mild and short-lived discomfort. Laser treatment may feel like a brief snapping sensation, cautery produces a warm feeling, and cryotherapy can sting momentarily due to the cold.

For shave removal or larger lesions, we use local anaesthetic to ensure the area is numb.

Immediately after treatment, the area may appear:

  • Slightly red or swollen
  • Darkened temporarily
  • Covered with a small crust or scab
  • Occasionally blistered (following cryotherapy)

These changes are expected and form part of the normal healing response.

Surface healing typically occurs within 7–14 days, depending on the size of the lesion and the treatment method used. Larger or thicker angiomas may take slightly longer. Any small scab should be left to fall away naturally.
