Want reassurance about your skin health?
A full body skin check is a comprehensive examination of your skin from head to toe, performed by experienced dermatology and skin surgery specialists.
Unlike a single mole check, a full body skin check examines your entire skin surface, helping identify suspicious moles, skin lesions, sun damage and other changes that may require monitoring or further investigation.
At Aventus Clinic, our GMC-registered clinicians use clinical examination and dermoscopy to provide expert assessment and personalised advice. No GP referral is required, with fast appointments available at our Hitchin, Hertfordshire clinic, conveniently located with excellent road and rail links and nearby parking available.

We thoroughly assess your skin to detect suspicious lesions, precancerous changes and signs of skin cancer at the earliest possible stage.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. A full body skin check can help identify suspicious lesions, precancerous skin changes and early signs of skin cancer before they become more advanced. It may be particularly beneficial if you have numerous moles, significant sun exposure, a history of skin cancer or concerns about new or changing skin lesions.
Your appointment begins with a discussion about your medical history, skin concerns and any lesions you have noticed. Your clinician will then perform a systematic examination of your skin from head to toe.
A single mole check focuses on one specific mole or skin lesion that is new, changing or causing concern. A full body skin check involves examining your entire skin surface and may identify additional suspicious lesions, precancerous changes or early skin cancers that you may not have noticed. If you have multiple moles, extensive sun exposure or a history of skin cancer, a full body skin check is often recommended.
A full body skin check is suitable for anyone seeking a comprehensive assessment of their skin. It may be particularly beneficial if you have multiple moles, a new or changing lesion, sun-damaged skin, significant sun exposure, fair skin, a history of sunburn or sunbed use, or a personal or family history of skin cancer. Even without obvious concerns, a professional skin examination can help identify skin changes that may go unnoticed during self-checks.
Most skin lesions are harmless and do not require treatment. If a lesion has features that require further assessment, your clinician will explain the findings and recommend the most appropriate next steps.
If a lesion appears suspicious following examination and dermoscopy, a biopsy may be recommended. A small sample, or sometimes the entire lesion, is sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis.
Where appropriate, lesions may be removed for diagnosis or treatment. This may include suspicious moles, BCCs, SCCs, Bowen's disease and certain precancerous skin lesions.
Many moles and skin lesions assessed during a full body skin check are benign. In these cases, your clinician may recommend self-monitoring and ongoing skin awareness.
Head-to-toe assessment of your skin health
A full body skin examination allows our clinicians to assess moles, skin lesions and signs of sun damage across the entire skin surface. Many common skin conditions can be identified during the assessment, including both benign and potentially cancerous lesions.
New or changing moles can be assessed for features associated with melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
Persistent or unusual skin lesions can be examined to determine whether further investigation or treatment may be required.
A skin check can help identify potential signs of basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma.
Areas of sun-damaged skin and precancerous lesions can be identified before they progress into more advanced skin cancers.
We assess for signs of cumulative UV damage, which can increase the risk of developing skin cancer over time.
Many non-cancerous skin lesions can also be identified, including cysts, skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses, lipomas and other common skin growths.
Upload photographs of any skin concerns using our secure online form. Our clinical team will review them and advise if a full body skin check is recommended.

No. Many patients attend for reassurance and routine skin monitoring rather than a specific concern. A full body skin check can help identify skin changes that may otherwise go unnoticed.
No. While people with risk factors may benefit from regular skin examinations, anyone can arrange a full body skin check if they would like a professional assessment of their skin.
Yes. People with multiple moles may find it more difficult to notice subtle changes. A full body skin examination allows an experienced clinician to assess moles and identify any that may require closer monitoring.
Many skin conditions, including some skin cancers, may not cause symptoms during their early stages. A comprehensive skin examination can provide reassurance and help identify changes before they become more noticeable.
There is no single recommendation for everyone. The frequency of skin examinations depends on your individual risk factors, medical history and the findings of previous assessments. Your clinician can advise on whether future reviews would be beneficial.
