We assess and treat a range of skin lesions with no GP referral or long waiting times, including moles, cysts, skin tags and warts.
Concerned about a skin lesion, lump or skin growth?
At Aventus Clinic, we provide consultant-led assessment and treatment of skin lesions from our CQC-registered Hitchin clinic. Whether you have noticed a mole, skin tag, cyst, lipoma, wart, seborrhoeic keratosis or another skin lesion, our specialists can provide an accurate diagnosis and advise on the most appropriate next steps.
Every consultation begins with a thorough clinical assessment. Depending on the findings, this may include reassurance, monitoring, skin biopsy, lesion removal or treatment planning for selected benign, pre-cancerous and cancerous skin lesions.
Comprehensive assessment of skin lesions, lumps, bumps and skin growths by consultant dermatologists and skin surgeons.
Every lesion is assessed before treatment is recommended, helping ensure the most appropriate management plan for your individual needs.
While many skin lesions are harmless, new, changing or unusual lesions should be assessed by a specialist. A professional skin lesion check can help determine whether a lesion is benign or may require monitoring, further investigation or removal.
Changes in size, shape, colour, texture or appearance may indicate that a lesion should be assessed by a specialist.
A new lump, bump, growth or lesion that looks different from other areas of your skin may benefit from professional assessment.
Bleeding, crusting, itching, tenderness, irritation or a lesion that does not heal may warrant further assessment.
Most skin lesions are benign. If a lesion has features that require further investigation, your specialist will explain the findings and recommend the most appropriate pathway.
Some lesions can be safely monitored with follow-up assessments where appropriate.
Where a definitive diagnosis is required, a biopsy may be recommended.
Tissue samples can be sent to a specialist laboratory for microscopic examination.
Where clinically appropriate, lesions may be removed for diagnosis, symptom relief or treatment. Selected BCCs and SCCs may also be removed by our specialist team.

Complete removal of skin lesions under local anaesthetic. The removed tissue can be sent for histological examination to confirm the diagnosis.
Removal of selected raised or superficial skin lesions using a controlled shaving technique.
Freezing treatment used for selected benign skin lesions and pre-cancerous conditions such as actinic keratoses.
A heat-based technique used to treat selected superficial skin lesions and skin tags.
Consultant-led procedures performed under local anaesthetic, tailored to the type, size and location of the skin lesion.
Following treatment, you’ll receive personalised aftercare advice covering wound healing, recovery and ongoing skin monitoring.
If tissue has been sent for histological analysis, we’ll explain the results and discuss any recommended follow-up care. The results can help confirm the nature of the lesion and whether any further treatment is needed.

No, the vast majority of skin lesions are benign (non‑cancerous). However, some may resemble skin cancer, or may become problematic if located in sensitive areas. That’s why professional examination is recommended.
A skin cancer screening focuses on suspicious moles, lesions or areas of concern. A full-body skin check involves a head-to-toe examination of the skin to identify signs of skin cancer across the entire body.
Common benign types include moles, skin tags, warts, seborrhoeic keratoses, cysts (epidermoid or sebaceous), and lesions caused by sun exposure.
Yes, certain lesions, such as some sun‑damaged patches (e.g. actinic keratoses) or rapidly changing growths may carry risk and warrant removal or biopsy for further examination.
After removal you may need to keep the area clean and dry for a time, change dressings, avoid picking scabs or stitches, and watch for signs of infection. Mild pain or tenderness, redness or slight swelling are common.
Recovery time varies: small lesions removed by shave‑excision or cryotherapy may heal in a couple of weeks, while surgical excisions may take a few weeks for wounds to settle and any stitches to come out.
